Keeping it Classy: Ella Redefines Boudoir Photography

Cufflinks and watches are quickly becoming passé when it comes to romantic gifts for your husband or boyfriend. Over the past few years an interesting trend has become the “must have” gift your significant other will not only love, but is a gift that keeps on giving. I’m talking of course, about Boudior photography. A taboo topic of days past, everyday women are seeking out professional photographers to capture romantic pictures for “his eyes only.” While many photographers are jumping on this bandwagon, it takes a true artist to capture the beauty of a woman as a timeless keepsake instead of a strip club ad look-a-like. After perusing the gallery of Ella Diumea’s work, we have found such an artist.

A tour of her house turned multi-room studio revealed her talent for staging and creating a backdrop where woman can let their guard down and as she says, “empower themselves to see how beautiful they really are.” One of her client testimonials said, “After eight years and two kids, my body was not where I wanted it to be for our anniversary. But I really wanted to do something special for my husband and try to feel as beautiful as I did on our wedding day. Ella was amazing at finding the angles and poses that worked best for me and where I was most comfortable. The end result was amazing because the pictures were classy, artistic and tasteful. Ella has photographed all types, ages, and sizes of woman and even herself. She describes her photo sessions as not only empowering but therapeutic. Ella also works with a professional hair and make-up artist who will come to the studio and style you for an additional fee.

Talking with Ella and her clients, a Boudoir photography session isn’t just a sexy gift for your better half. In fact, it doesn’t have to be a gift at all. It’s a chance to feel brave, beautiful and capture a memory that is also a work of art. We recommend you to have your hair and makeup done by a professional. Why? Because they know best how makeup responds in studio lighting conditions.
We work with talented, fully licensed hair & makeup artists. If you’d like to use their services, come with clean, lightly moisturized face. (If you have skin or hair sensitivities, please feel free to bring your own cosmetics and styling products.)
If your hair is very fine, don’t wash it the day of the session. Fine hair styles better the day after shampooing. If your hair is heavier, it’s all right to wash it that morning.
Wearing hair down is always best for this type of shoot. Because you will be moving around so much and laying on your back, holding your head up by your hand (which puts your hand in your hair), and even possibly getting your hair wet in a pool or bathtub… it’s always best to wear it down so you are not constantly fixing it during the shoot.
If you are doing your own hair and make-up, here are three suggestions:
- use a little more mascara than you generally do;
- wear matte lipstick in a slightly darker color than normal;
- bring powder to touch up shine.

If you are concerned with your nerves feel free to enlist one of your best buddies to join you in this little adventure. Be sure you choose a friend whom you feel completely comfortable with as they will most likely be witnessing your entire photo shoot!

It may be easier said than done but any stress you bring to the table will most likely show in your photos. Be sure that you have everything prepared so that you do not have to worry about it the day before or the day of. Give yourself adequate time to get to the photo studio and be
sure you know HOW to get to the studio!
